Elmet Technologies is looking for a Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Lewiston, Maine. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Accounting, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our monthly and annual financial results.
You’ll own and support core general ledger activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, tax filings, fixed assets, capital project tracking, budgeting, audit preparation, and financial analysis across the organization. We’re looking for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with curiosity and initiative—someone who doesn’t just identify a discrepancy but digs into the numbers, understands why it happened, and helps resolve it.

What You’ll Do
As a Senior Staff Accountant, you’ll help ensure our financial results are complete, accurate, timely, and compliant with GAAP and other applicable standards. Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare or review monthly journal entries for company locations
Prepare account reconciliations and review reconciliations completed by other accounting team members
Ensure reconciliations are complete, accurate, and ready for review and approval
Prepare monthly financial statements for review by the Senior Manager of Accounting
Analyze financial results and report on the major drivers behind variances
Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end financial reporting
Prepare personal property, sales, and use tax returns
Maintain the fixed asset system and associated depreciation schedules
Track capital projects in process and regularly report on their status
Assist with annual audit preparation
Support management in strengthening financial accountability throughout the organization
Provide support for the annual planning and budgeting process
Perform ad hoc financial analysis to help answer business questions and support decision-making
Support the Senior Manager of Accounting with additional accounting initiatives, projects, and priorities as needed
Requirements
What We’re Looking For
You’ll be a strong fit for this position if you bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance strongly preferred
5+ years of general ledger, corporate accounting, or public accounting experience
Hands-on experience with month-end close and account reconciliation preparation
Comprehensive understanding of the general ledger and financial statements
Experience working with ERP systems
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables
Strong attention to detail and a focus on developing processes that improve accuracy
Excellent interpersonal, communication, research, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
A proactive approach to investigating financial issues and resolving discrepancies
High level of integrity and commitment to financial accuracy and confidentiality
Additional experience that can help you succeed includes:
Manufacturing accounting experience
SEC reporting or SOX experience
ASC 606 Revenue Recognition experience
ASC 842 Lease Accounting experience
Public accounting experience, particularly auditing

This position is based at Elmet Technologies’ Lewiston facility and involves regular computer-based accounting and analytical work, along with communication across the organization. Because our Finance team supports a manufacturing business, you may also spend time in or around manufacturing areas. Those environments may include elevated noise levels, variable temperatures, and dust.
