Overview
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial data, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely monthly closing. This role supports the Accounting team by coordinating financial transactions, maintaining balance sheet schedules, and providing ad-hoc reports to our brokers, clients, and internal departments. The position plays a key role in ensuring smooth monthly closing, accurate financial reconciliation and reporting, and proper disbursement of funds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

ACCOUNTING & FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare month-end closing journal entries and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger
Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, including accruals, prepaids, and reversals across multiple entities
Maintain and reconcile approximately 25 balance sheet accounts for 2-5 companies
Maintain and reconcile intercompany balances
Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
Post cash receipts and transactions to the general ledger
Reconcile trust accounts and ensure compliance with internal controls and policies
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Maintain organized and accurate financial records
Support internal audits and reporting requests
Ensure compliance with company policies & procedures, and financial controls
Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

REQUIRED
5+ years of experience in balance sheet accounting and financial reporting
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
Strong organizational and time management skills
Effective communication skills with both internal teams and external partners
Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
PREFERRED
Accounting experience in marine, yacht brokerage, or high-value asset sales environments
Familiarity with DockMaster or similar CRM/ERP accounting systems
Understanding of multi-entity and intercompany accounting
Experience with trust accounting or escrow-type transactions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
Ability to climb stairs
Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily office-based environment
May involve interaction with brokers, clients, and internal departments
Requires a high level of focus and attention to detail in a fast-paced setting
WORKING HOURS & BENEFITS
- Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm – Additional work hours may be needed during month-end close
