Title: Staff Accountant

Reports to: Director of Finance

Employment Information: Full time, 12-month non union position

Job Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a wide range of accounting functions to support the financial operations of the school. This position maintains accurate financial records, assists with month-end and year-end closing processes, processes accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, reconciles accounts, supports audits, and helps ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and school financial requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Perform duties in all areas of accounting for the school
Process billing, verify and/or complete receivable collections.
Process invoices, verify and / or complete vendor invoice payments.
Post transactions and categorize records in the general ledger
Performs month and year end close of assigned areas.
Process bank deposits, record banking transactions, and reconcile bank accounts.
Assist with annual financial audits and other compliance reviews as needed.
Comply with federal, state, local and school policies, procedures and regulations.
Support compliance with state and federal funding requirements.
Collaborate with school employees, administrators and external agencies regarding billing and financial matters.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
Requirements
Qualifications and Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. An Associate's degree with at least three years of progressively responsible accounting experience may be considered.
Minimum of two years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, governmental, or public-sector environment.
Experience with SAGE MIP or other accounting software preferred. Ability to learn new financial systems quickly
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL)
Excellent organizational skills, attention to details and accuracy.
Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
Proficient in Microsoft Office with exceptional knowledge of Excel and Excel based programs.
Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Commitment to excellent customer service when working with staff, vendors, school districts, and outside agencies.
