Job Description
This Accounts Payable Specialist role supports the dept accounting function within a high-volume, fast-paced energy and transportation environment. You ensure the accuracy of purchases, inventory, and related financial transactions by performing detailed reconciliations, processing large volumes of invoices, and supporting month-end close. The position is ideal for someone with strong accounts payable and general accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across operations, logistics, and vendor teams while driving process improvements.
Responsibilities
Perform monthly reconciliation of fuel-related balance sheet general ledger accounts, including inventory and supplier payments.
Review, validate, and process high-volume fuel invoices accurately and within required timelines.
Research and resolve discrepancies between invoices, purchase orders, and receiving data, with particular focus on fuel volume and pricing variances.
Support month-end close activities by preparing and posting journal entries, accruals, and financial adjustments related to fuel transactions.
Reconcile vendor statements and accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of payable balances.
Maintain accurate records of fuel purchases, inventory movements, and related accounts payable transactions.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, logistics, and vendor contacts to ensure accurate transaction flow and timely issue resolution.
Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement, automation, and increased accuracy in reconciliation and accounting activities.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, balance sheet reconciliation policies, and applicable accounting standards.
Utilize Microsoft Excel and ERP systems to manage data-heavy workflows, perform reconciliations, and generate reports.
Support continuous improvement initiatives in accounts payable and fuel accounting processes to enhance efficiency and data integrity.
Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders regarding invoice issues, discrepancies, and resolution status.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
