Description
We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper & Payroll Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced, sales-driven environment. This role is critical to the financial health of our organization and requires someone with deep hands-on expertise in full-cycle bookkeeping, payroll processing, and — critically — the accurate calculation and disbursement of commissions for a multi-rep sales force operating on tiered, performance-based compensation structures.
You will work closely with ownership, sales leadership, and our operations team to ensure payroll runs are accurate, on time, and fully compliant.

Role Overview
Bookkeeping & Accounting
Manage full-cycle bookkeeping including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software
Process vendor invoices, subcontractor payments, and expense reports
Reconcile credit card statements and petty cash accounts
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare financial reports and summaries for ownership review
Coordinate with external CPA for tax filings and audits
Payroll & Commission Processing
Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for W-2 employees and 1099 contractors using platforms such as Gusto, ADP, or Paychex
Calculate, audit, and disburse sales commissions based on tiered gross profit (GP) structures, close rates, and performance milestones
Maintain commission tracking spreadsheets aligned with CRM and job management system data (e.g., Bamboo, JobNimbus, or similar)
Work with sales leadership to ensure commission plans are applied accurately and consistently
Resolve payroll discrepancies and commission disputes in a timely, professional manner
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions (FL, MD, VA, NC, and others)
Manage payroll deductions including health benefits, garnishments, and retirement contributions
Prepare W-2s, 1099s, and all required year-end tax documents
Requirements
3+ years of bookkeeping and payroll experience, preferably in a construction, home services, or sales-driven company
Proven experience processing commission-based payroll for a sales team — this is non-negotiable
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO)
Experience with a major payroll platform: Gusto, ADP, Paychex, or equivalent
Solid understanding of multi-state payroll compliance and tax withholding
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets for commission modeling and reconciliation
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy — especially in high-stakes commission calculations
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee compensation
Organized, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
Experience in roofing, solar, siding, or exterior remodeling industries
Familiarity with CRM or job management platforms (JobNimbus, Bamboo, AccuLynx, etc.)
Experience supporting a rapidly scaling company ($10M–$50M+ revenue range)
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Experience with Paylocity
