DescriptionPosition Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the daily accounting operations of the organization by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, and supporting month-end close activities. This role contributes to the overall financial integrity of the organization by ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling multiple responsibilities while working collaboratively within the accounting team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Perform general ledger account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and accruals.
Prepare financial reports and assist with financial statement preparation.
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status for management review.
Monitor expenses and assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
Assist with forecasting activities and tracking departmental spending.
Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation records, and inventory reconciliations.
Assist with payroll accounting entries, benefit accruals, and payroll reconciliations.
Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
Assist with preparation and filing of tax returns, sales tax filings, and other regulatory reporting.
Review accounting procedures and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with departments across the organization to resolve accounting issues and improve financial processes.
Prepare ad hoc reports and perform special projects as assigned.
Provide backup support for other accounting team functions as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience preferred.
Experience in healthcare or multi-location environments preferred.
Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting procedures.
Experience with accounting software and ERP systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong understanding of reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Strong time management skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May occasionally require travel to other company locations.
Work Environment
Normal office environment with minimal physical demands.
