Reports To: Property Accounting Manger
Department: Finance
Location: Oakland, CA
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Travel: Local travel may be required

The Unity Council is a non-profit Social Equity Development Corporation with an over 60-year history in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. Our mission is to promote social equity and improve quality of life by building vibrant communities where everyone can work, learn, and thrive.
Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach more than 10,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Contra Costa County. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 300 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
* Review & Post AR that is done by Property Managers
* Post AR that is rec’d in office
* Positive Pay Exceptions
* Update weekly cash flow by property report
* Work with property managers and Finance to address queries
* Input and/or Review AP batches for accuracy
* Print Checks once manager has committed pymts
* Upload Positive Pay to banks after check run
* Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all properties’ bank accounts in a timely manner.
* Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries, including cash, monthly accruals, gross potential rent, and amortization
* Produce monthly for internal and external reporting in accordance with the monthly closing schedule
* Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
* Assist with annual RAP filing.
* Assist annual 571L filing.
* Participate in training for new accountants and PM staff
Qualifications
* BA degree in accounting, finance, or related field with 3 years of property accountant experience. Or a combination of both.
* Knowledge of GAAP accounting.
* Understanding of basic entity structures (corporations, LLCs, LPs) required
* Able to work in a complex and changing organization and adapt to changes in structure and work priorities.
* Work quickly, identify issues of materiality and make decisions within their authority.
* Willingness to learn, seek advice and take direction when appropriate from coworkers, the Controller, and others.
* Excellent organization skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Positive attitude, professional, and perform responsibilities with integrity.
* Problem-solve prioritize work and meet deadlines.
* Perform routine job functions without supervision.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong team player, ability to communicate with accounting team and other departments both verbally and in writing
* Must be PC literate MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel and Word).
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel.
* Property management software experiences required, Yardi experience preferred
Physical Requirements
* Must be able climb stairs, reach, bend, lift 20-30 pounds, crawl, kneel, stoop, twist, grasp with hands and fingers materials, use arms and legs, able to walk, climb ladders if applicable.
* Regularly required to sit for long periods of time with periodic breaks and occasionally stand and walk;
* Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment;
* Close vision required for computer use.
