DescriptionWe’re looking for a Staff Accountant who will play a pivotal role in sustaining and advancing this mission by helping to manage a sound and timely accounting function for MTC. This is more than bookkeeping, it’s about contributing to the financial strategy behind life-changing initiatives and groundbreaking programs that help our clients.You’ll join a small, fast-moving, mission-driven team, collaborating directly with MTC’s CFO, Sr Director of Accounting, and key stakeholders. Specific Responsibilities:
Communicate on behalf of the Accounting Team as directed with funders, vendors, community partners, donors, and stakeholders on various financial matters.
Research, prioritize, and follow up on incoming issues and concerns, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature.
Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization, ensuring robust internal controls are in place and being followed.
Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring proper account allocation.
Perform detailed monthly reconciliations of all assigned balance sheet accounts (e.g., Cash, Fixed Assets, Accruals, Prepaids, Intercompany accounts)
Perform designated accounting procedures to ensure an accurate, efficient, and timely close to each accounting period.
Execute and manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for all financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and grant accounting.
Monitor grant expenditures and compliance with funder requirements; and provide timely reports to funders and stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with reporting requirements by maintaining accurate documentation and data integrity.
Assist in the preparation of internal management financial reports.
Provide audit support by preparing detailed schedules and providing supporting documentation.
Optimize efficiencies in current accounting procedures, develop new processes, and implement automation where it is possible to streamline workflows (e.g., journal entry imports, reconciliation tools, data feeds)
Proactively research and evaluate functionality of current and potential systems to automate routine tasks and better manage and analyze data for decision making.
Focuses on a people-first approach across the organization.
Diagnoses problems quickly, foresees potential issues, and delivers resolution.

Requirements
Experience and Skills Requirements:
Must be well-rounded in general accounting.
Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must value and champion accuracy and accountability.
Must demonstrate intellectual curiosity by actively questioning variances, seeking root causes of discrepancies, and proactively researching for guidance and new technology solutions.
Must display a professional business manner, work well within a multi-functional team, and be resourceful and self-motivated.
Must be able to prioritize workload, assume responsibility without direct supervision, and exercise initiative, judgment and flexibility.
Availability: Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work to accomplish the outcomes of the job.
Must pass a Level II background check/fingerprinting (https://info.flclearinghouse.com), and drug screening.
Experience Preferred:
Small business working and/or accounting experience.
Proficiency in understanding and use of computers and other office equipment, MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).
Knowledge of accrual accounting and GAAP.
Non-Profit Experience.
Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting/finance with at least two years of experience. 3+ years of equivalent external work experience or equivalent formal training in related duties may be substituted.
Computer Program/Resource Requirements:
MS Office Suite
QuickBooks or other accounting software
Computer Program/Resource Preferred:
Experience with Sage Intacct is a significant plus.
