The Job You Will Perform:
The Tax Advisor position is involved in all aspects of Federal, state, and local income tax compliance, provision, and research. This position will report to the U.S. Director of U.S. Income Tax Compliance & Reporting and is a key member of the team responsible for the Federal income tax filings, state and local income and franchise tax filings, tax provision, and support of tax planning initiatives. This position is an in-person position based at the Memphis, TN International Paper Company headquarters.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of the Company's Federal corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and excise tax returns on an as needed basis
- Assist in the preparation of the Company’s state and local income and franchise tax returns
- Assist in the preparation of the quarterly estimated and annual book/tax differences for the federal tax provision and state modifications for the state tax provision
- Participate in special projects such as research and development credits and investment tax credits
- Research, analyze and interpret tax laws and provide written memoranda on various value-added projects and transactions
- Develop tax technical skills and gain an understanding of the reasoning behind Company’s book/tax differences
- Maintain accurate and complete working papers supporting all Federal and state tax positions
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all key software tools
- Stay current with Federal and state tax legislation and actively participate in learning activities as assigned
- Assist Federal and State Audit Managers with assistance as needed
The Skills You Will Bring:
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
3+ years relevant tax experience
Solid knowledge of and ability to interpret tax rules and regulations
Proficient in Word and Excel with CorpTax experience a plus
Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
Detail orientated, organized and able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desire to excel and be rewarded for your work
Preferred Qualifications
Accounting related degree
5+ years’ experience in a Corporate Income Tax Department
