The Staff Accountant applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities:
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions.
- Prepares bank reconciliations and will work with IT and external consultants.
- Prepares Ohio CAT Tax filings.
- Prepares journal entries, workpapers, and other reports for month-end close.
- Prepares/generates monthly financial statements for internal stakeholders.
- Analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and assists in preparation of balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for controller.
- Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
- Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
- Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Assists Controller in annual audit.
- Installs, modifies, documents, and coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from four-year college or university and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Workday experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
