COMPTROLLER

DUTIES:

The Comptroller will report directly to the Executive Director of Finance and Planning and will play a key role in financial planning and strategic budgeting, providing transparent and efficient management of resources to support the college’s mission and educational objectives. This position will be responsible for assisting in the oversight of institution’s financial health, compliance and fiscal management. This role involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting and compliance with federal, state and institutional policies. Salary range: $95,000 - $110,000

FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in developing budget forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide insights and financial projections to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Develop strategies for revenue generation and expense control to enhance financial sustainability.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and support for the Business office staff, fostering a culture of professional growth and accountability.
  • Provide direction, supervise, prepare contracts and act as a liaison for the college’s auxiliary services and partners.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining long-term financial forecasts for all of the college’s funds. Monitors both short and long-term internal and external financial and operational developments to ensure that forecasts are current and accurate.
  • Manage auxiliary services including bookstore, cafeteria and parking garage and daycare center.
  • Contribute to the College meeting its strategic objectives by assisting administrators and departmental heads in conducting financial analysis of current and proposed activities.
  • Assists in monitoring the College’s financial condition by using analysis of financial transactions.
  • Assist with supervision of internal audits and grant funded projects.
  • Assists in preparation of annual audited financial statements.
  • Assists in preparation of the annual budgets whereby organizational needs are identified, consensus on priorities obtained, and translates into a financial plan.
  • Assists in ensuring that the College is following financial regulatory, legal, administrative, collectively bargained, contractual, procedural and accounting standards.
  • Serves as an advocate for the College’s interests. Represents the College by speaking to and making presentations to external groups who have the capacity to contribute to the College’s success.
  • Maintains positive and productive relationships with federal, state and local officials who interface with the College.
  • Spearhead the development of a uniform cost analysis process and procedure for the College’s projects and programs.
  • Perform other related duties requested by the Executive Director of Finance and Planning.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

·         Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.

·         Minimum of 7 -10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance in higher education setting.

·         Demonstrable knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations applicable to institutions of higher education.

·         Strong organizational skills, writing skills, knowledge of budgets, auxiliary service knowledge, cost analysis knowledge and the ability to work independently.

·         In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards board (GASB).

·         Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with college faculty, staff, administrators and governing boards.

·         Experience in managing auxiliary services (preferably for an institution of higher education).

·         Experience in operational and strategic planning, policy development and financial analysis.

·         Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in written and oral format to administrative staff, professional colleagues, governing boards and the general public in large or small group settings.

·         Exemplary work ethic and leadership skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.

·         Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and other specialized software required.
