A Brief Overview
The Accountant I supports the Finance Leadership team in recording, reconciling and analyzing financial transactions. The role supports the accounting for all departments (Hospital or Practice Plan) and must ensure that all transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The role supports all regulatory activities and requirements. The role requires technical competencies in financial applications and the ability to transact in multiple systems.

What you will do

  • Monthly Close
  • Prepare assigned journal entries and supporting schedules in accordance with the month end closing schedule.
  • Enter necessary inputs to the implementation modules (e.g. Customer, Banking and Settlement)
  • Account Analysis
  • Prepare assigned account analyses according to the month end closing schedule
  • Identify Reconciling items and variances
  • Prepare variance explanations
  • Compliance and Regulatory
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Understanding Internal Controls
  • Assist with gathering information/data needed for audit and 990 processes
  • Assist with preparation of annual financial statements and footnote disclosures
  • Assist with the preparation of external reporting to governmental agencies
  • Assist with Internal Audit data requests
  • Assist with any other mandated external reporting including surveys
  • Technical Expertise
  • Advanced Excel including VLOOKUP’s and Pivot Tables
  • Proficient in managing and processing large data sets, able to organize and filter data
  • Understanding of Chart of Accounts/FDM (Foundation Data Model)
  • Ability to operate in multiple systems and programs
  • Understanding of Patient Accounting Systems and processes.
  • Customer Service
  • Collaboration with Finance Partners, Divisional Business Managers, and local practice plan team members to support operational finance needs
  • Collaboration with Shared Service Business Units including Accounts Payable, Supply Chain, Patient Financial Services, Treasury, Payroll to support operational finance needs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to maintain and securely store confidential information
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Financial Reporting
  • Understanding of Income statements and Balance Sheets at a Consolidated, Company and Cost Center level
  • Able to create ad hoc reports to support analysis or business needs
  • Understanding of financial and aging reports
  • Other
  • Supports annual budget process, as needed
  • Supports preparation of financial projections and long range planning efforts, as needed
  • University of Pennsylvania Payroll (for Practice Plans only)
  • Able to create and edit employee payroll record in PENN’s Workday system
  • Understanding of PENN HR/payroll related policies

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field - Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced Excel expertise including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables (Required proficiency)

SALARY RANGE:

$61,360.00 - $78,230.00 Annually

Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
