Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Financial Services Department at Mount Holyoke College reporting to the Associate Controller. The successful applicant will serve as a liaison with the Office of the Chief Investment Officer and various departments across campus in investment and endowment accounting and related financial reporting to both internal and external users. In addition, the Senior Accountant will support the Financial Services Department in managing daily banking transactions, cash management, and cash flow projections related to investments and the endowment.
Duties and responsibilities:
Manage all investment-related documents, including subscription agreements, amendments, capital calls, distributions, manager terminations, and regulatory compliance. Coordinate signatures to meet deadlines.
Oversee accurate reporting and recording of investment activities across endowment, unitrust, pooled income, and annuity accounts to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer’s Office to process investment transactions, classify new investments in the general ledger, and ensure proper presentation in financial statements and footnotes.
Serve as liaison with external auditors, preparing schedules and supporting audit requests for the annual external audit. Coordinate month-end closing procedures with Controllers’ Office and other departments.
Monitor the College’s investment cash position, ensuring sufficient balances for capital calls and distributions, and work closely with Treasury and Investment Office to execute investment decisions and related cash transactions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with five years related experience.
Intermediate to advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
Ability to analyze data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
Detail oriented, able to handle multiple projects, work accurately under time pressures and deadlines, work well independently and as part of a team.
Self-motivated, proactive, and a willingness and ability to learn new technologies and skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Workday Finance.
Experience in non-profit industry or higher education.
Physical Demands:
Sedentary work: Working in an office environment may involve prolonged sitting at a desk while performing tasks.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at all time.
Sufficient clarity of speech required includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
Employee operates office equipment and computers to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
Starting Minimum Annual Salary Range: $76,806-$99,847
