Description:
Miller, McDonald, Inc. is a well-established CPA firm in Bemidji, MN, providing tax, audit, payroll, and accounting services to individuals, businesses, and non-profits throughout northern Minnesota. For over 50 years, we’ve built a reputation on professionalism, client service, and accuracy.*Position Summary*
We are seeking an experienced *Senior Accountant* with expertise in *tax preparation* and/or *audit/assurance services*. This position involves preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, leading portions of audit engagements, and mentoring staff accountants. The ideal candidate will have several years of public accounting experience, strong technical skills, and the ability to manage client relationships. This position is available to both on-site and hybrid jobseekers. The hybrid opportunity requires a minimum of 1 day on-site per week as well as on-site training. This role provides limitless growth potential in public accounting.
*Comp Time Policy*
At Miller, McDonald, Inc., we recognize the demands of public accounting, especially during the busy *tax season (February–April)*. To reward our team’s hard work, we offer a *unique comp time policy*. Salaried employees who work more than 40 hours per week can choose to:
· *Accumulate PTO* at *1.5 times* their overtime hours, or
· *Receive overtime pay* at *1.5 times* their hourly rate.
Although overtime is not required, during tax season, it’s not uncommon for employees to work 50–70 hours a week and accumulate *an additional* *120–240 hours of PTO or an additional $5,000 - $10,000 in pay depending on hours worked*. This allows our staff to take extended, meaningful time off once the busy season ends or earn additional pay.
In northern Minnesota, this means long winter hours are traded for *summer freedom* — extra time to enjoy warm weather, sunny days, and our region’s many lakes and outdoor activities. We see it as a balance: work hard during the colder months, then recharge and make the most of summer with family, friends, and the outdoors.
*Hybrid Work Option:* Miller, McDonald, Inc. offers a structured remote work policy that allows employees to work from home while maintaining professionalism and client service. Team members in this position are typically in the office *1-2 days per week*, with remote days scheduled in advance. Employees must be available during regular business hours, maintain a dedicated professional workspace, and follow firm guidelines for communication, confidentiality, and data security.
*Your Success is Important to Us*
At Miller, McDonald, Inc., we believe a strong start sets the foundation for long-term success. Our onboarding process is designed to ensure new employees feel supported, quickly acclimate to their job responsibilities, and gain confidence in their role. During the first month, each new employee is paired with an experienced staff member on a weekly rotation, providing direct mentorship and guidance. We follow a structured itinerary that introduces core responsibilities, firm processes, and client service standards. From day one, employees are given meaningful projects and tasks specific to their position, allowing them to immediately contribute while building their skills. This approach ensures a smooth transition, encourages professional growth, and equips new team members to perform their daily duties efficiently.
*Compensation*
This position pays *$65,000 to $85,000 annually*, with the opportunity for additional compensation during tax season. In addition to competitive pay, Miller, McDonald, Inc. offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including:
* *Paid Time Off (PTO)* that grows with years of service
