Position: Staff Accountant
Jewish Community Federation of Richmond is seeking a seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to play a key role in managing the accounting and reporting functions of our Jewish Community Federations financial records, accounts payable and receivable. In this position, you will leverage your strong computer skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency while working independently. You will also have the opportunity to showcase your initiative by identifying and addressing any discrepancies and collaborating with the CEO and Fractional CFO, and Finance and Administration Committee to maintain consistent and accurate standards. Job Roles:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, working with other departments as the on-site resource for accounting-related inquiries.
- Oversee and process accounts payable – maintain vendor records, receiving and paying bills.
- Oversee expense approval workflows and collect expense support from credit card holders.
- Prepare bank deposits and work closely with Development Professionals to record donations accurately and effectively.
- Monitor and report on cash flow as needed, managing bank accounts to ensure appropriate cash availability for payroll and AP payments.
- Support annual audit and 990 tax filing preparation.
- Track grant and restricted fund activity, maintaining accurate schedules.
- Work closely with Fractional CFO to perform month end close tasks, journal entries, and reconciliations timely and on schedule.
- Assist in improving and documenting company accounting procedures, identifying potential issues, and making improvements to further streamline the organization’s operations.
- Recording contribution transactions in Accounting System with accuracy and timeliness
- Process donations and deposit into financial systems.
- Exercise good judgment, attention to detail and decision-making skills when working on donor accounts and use strong interpersonal skills when communicating with donors and colleagues, responding to inquiries and correspondence from donors and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Develop and utilize skills in Excel, Microsoft Dynamics, Word, Teams and other relevant technological and data analytic tools to accurately manage information and perform other job duties.
- Acts as project manager for special projects that may include working independently to plan and coordinate multiple presentations, disseminating information and coordinating strategies and/or meetings.
HR/Payroll/Administrative Functions
- Prepare bi-monthly payroll; serve as the expert on the payroll software (iSolved) for other departments for HR workflows in the system; liase with payroll company’s support team.
- Responsible for employee onboarding and benefits administration.
- Work with COO and insurance representatives to ensure the proper and sufficient coverage is maintained in all areas
- Monitor and assist with 403b administration, compliance and reporting.
Qualifications and Success Factors:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in similar roles; nonprofit experience preferred but not required.
- Strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneDrive/Sharepoint), cloud-based tools, and financial and operational software (for example: Bill.com, Quickbooks Online, iSolved online payroll software, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, online banking portals).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Tech-savvy, adaptable, and a team player.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operate effectively in a culture of rapid change.
