Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, the Store Accountant is responsible for supporting the Finance Department and contributing to its success through the timely and accurate completion of records related to the retail stores operations.

Essential Functions

  • Reconcile cash and credit card payments, and record via journal entry.
  • Record on a timely basis the daily store sales.
  • Manage store armed car deliveries.
  • Support new store openings.
  • Record all eCommerce sales and deposit activity.
  • Prepare month end journal entries on a timely basis.
  • Prepare month end data for Goodwill International.
  • Reconcile and correct, if necessary, assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Update the FA (Fixed Asset) sub system for new assets, disposals, depreciation, and physical inventory of fixed assets.
  • All other assigned duties.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Physical Demand

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a sedentary role, some filing is required. The employee must have the ability to communicate verbally and apply active listening skills, lift up to 25 pounds, and bend and stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Work hours are generally Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.  Some schedule flexibility may be permissible with supervisor approval.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work will be required to meet the needs of the business.
  • Travel within the MoKan region may be required. Occasional travel outside the region is not expected but is limited as approved.

Qualifications

The Store Accountant will be a proven leader with the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years work experience in accounting preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Working knowledge of not-for-profit environments preferred
  • Commitment to mission of the organization
  • Ability to quickly and accurately prepare statements and reports as requested
  • Knowledge of coding, general ledgers, journal entries and financial statements
  • Ability to accurately reconcile ledger accounts
  • Ability to accurately track cash flow and bank activity
    • Solid proficiency in all aspects of technology, not limited to MS Office, including Microsoft Excel 10-key by touch
    • Accounting software
