The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant assists in the month-end close, prepare journal entries and account reconciliations, and assist with the annual audit related to the Jewish Community Federation’s invested assets and supporting foundations. The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing both internal and external reporting, coordinate capital calls, and maintain up-to-date and accurate records for a number of investment vehicles and supporting foundations. This role also provides administrative support for the Investment and Foundations Teams and maintaining interaction with third-party service providers and investment managers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Maintain organized and thorough files to support investment transactions and accounting records for quarterly financial statements.
  • Prepare quarterly Supporting Foundation financial statements.
  • Monitor fund cash balances.
  • Prepare daily cash deposits.
  • Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly account reconciliations and timely research of variances or unusual transactions.
  • Assist in the month-end close, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and the annual audit.
  • Assist in facilitating investments including the preparation of documents, manager, and custodial letters.
  • Assist in maintaining and establishing required bank accounts.
  • Review and check data to validate accuracy and completeness of data used in reporting .
  • Prepare routine accounting entries for foundations, investments and other operating activity.
  • Assist in monitoring and following up on any accounting issues and coordinate with external tax preparer.
  • Coordinate information flow with third-party service providers.
  • Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of investment accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong and effective communication skills to deal directly with vendors and all levels of staff and management.
  • Technical skills and experience in financial reporting, consolidation and investment accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task to balance multiple requests without losing sight of overall objectives and deadlines.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in accounting required.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Experience in not-for-profit financial accounting and fund accounting strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with NetSuite platform a plus.

Salary Description

$89,000- $105,000/annually
