The Position:

The Accountant will support underlying working capital process (AP and AR) primarily by managing the resultant cash impact of those activities.  Comfort with excel is important, but more important is your desire for precision and interest in applying your deductive reasoning when research is required.  You should be comfortable with enough accounting context to understand how to check your work for reasonableness.  Assist in the mitigation of business risk (ex. confidentiality, segregation of duties) and help the company grow with new thinking! This is an hourly, non-exempt position with a pay rate of $29/hour.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Support information requests from cross-functional partners and maintain work instructions.
  • Helps maintains the general ledger through consistent journal entry and chart of account application.
  • Reconciles bank accounts several times per week, verifies deposits, journals changes and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Settles customer payments to accounts, reconciles customer accounts and helps manage/prioritize accounts receivable collections.
  • Provides assistance to outside financial partners (ex. banks, tax firm) as appropriate.
  • Direct and proactive communication. Expectations are well-defined and we work as a team – if you see something, say something!
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Solid excel skills; ability to understand worksheets and maintain them in subsequent billing/invoicing cycles.
  • Highly proficient with accounting software, Quickbooks a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience:

 

  • 0-3 years accounting work experience with Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline (or equivalent)
  •  Equivalent of 5-7 years accounting working experience without a Bachelor’s degree.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

The Location:

 

This is a hybrid/remote position. Candidate must be able to occasionally  work from Mount Vernon facility with 24 hours notice.

 

We are located in Mount Vernon just north of Highway 20 in the beautiful Skagit Valley.  The site is a fully operational Construction & Demolition recycling center which has frequent traffic, dust and noise. Runs will generally begin and end at this facility with dispatches within the I-5 corridor.
