Job Description
Overview
Plant Accountant needed in Kansas City, Kansas. You will support and assist the Plant Controller by auditing, updating, and analyzing cost data to detect control deficiencies, liabilities, or non-compliance to controls. You will assist in monthly closings, analysis of costs, and the preparation of the budget.

Responsibilities

- Analyze plant and distribution center financial data to determine performance to goals and prepare and distribute periodic reports to management: scrap, inventory, production, spending, and labor utilization
- Audit hourly payroll administration and accounts payable systems to ensure system integrity, conformance to company policies, and compliance to municipal, state, and federal laws
- Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts and expense accruals
- Audit capital projects, track spending by project, communicate with project managers, close projects upon completion, track fixed assets, and coordinate with Corporate
- Develop, implement, modify, and document record-keeping and accounting systems to ensure transactional efficiencies and cost effectiveness
- Examine payroll, accounting, and financial information to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to procedural and reporting standards and report variances to the Plant Controller
- Audit plant spending to comply with Accounting Department rules and procedures
- Review and resolve open receipts and invoice issues
- Participate in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiativesProvide backup to the payroll administration and accounts payable systems
- Perform all other work as assigned by the Controller
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business related field with 1 - 3 years’ experience in manufacturing accounting
- Demonstrated proficiency in accounting
- Self-motivated with strong and consistent attention to detail
- The ability to regularly use good judgment and discretion to make educated decisions for the greater good of the company
- Must be able to keep up with a fast-paced environment, have the ability to multi-task and reflect a positive attitude towards challenging job requirements
- Excellent personal computer; Microsoft products experience required - Word, Excel. Access/SQL experience a plus
- Organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
- JD Edwards and Hyperion experience a plus

- Occasional lifting of items greater than 25 pounds. Over 40 pounds – rare.
- Must wear uniform, safety glasses and steel toes shoes when in the plant.
- Must be able to wear a half face respirator when necessary.
- Must have at least 20/40 vision with or without the use of corrective lenses.
