General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for maintaining a thorough understanding of Wilbur-Ellis's business processes to ensure that the cost system functionality and performance meet current and future business requirements. This individual will work with the manufacturing team to maintain cost standards and with retail branches to verify that weighted average costs are handled correctly. The Manufacturing Cost Accountant at Wilbur-Ellis is an essential link between operations and accounting. To succeed in this role, the individual must be detailed and customer service oriented.

Key Skills and Abilities Include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 3+ years of Cost and/or General Ledger Accounting experience
• In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices
• Strong analytical skills, problem-solving, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively
• Strong business acumen skills to understand the business and its impacts on the financials
• Comfortable with large spreadsheets and Excel functions such as pivot tables, look-ups, and graphing
• Solid experience using ERP and Financial Analytic systems; JD Edwards experience is a plus
• Experience with business intelligence systems

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Monthly review of period costs and absorption, analyze the PPV/MFG variances, with actual costs vs standard costs. Help determine policy and procedures and perform cost adjustments when needed
• Provide cost center variance reporting and analysis
• Set the Yearly Standard Costs at the Manufacturing Plants including JDE run times and work center rates
• Set up new products, update raw material costs, and set up BOMs for blended products.
• Analyze inventory and COGS to ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP.
• Collect and analyze data to validate standard costs of manufactured products
• Prepare cost analysis for material, labor, and overhead variances, and update JDE where necessary
• Analyze third-party commission contracts to ensure monthly estimates are accurate and timely
• Assist with the preparation and monthly monitoring of annual operating budgets
• Reconcile inventory balances to the GL to ensure accuracy and data integrity
• Work closely with Operations, Purchasing, and Accounts Payable to resolve variances
• Working with the manufacturing team, perform initial cost estimates for new product formulas (ad hoc costing analysis and COGS)
• Participate in month-end closing activities (including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis)
• Prepare material usage reports
• Prepare audit schedules and provide support for the financial audit
• Communicate problem areas for training
• Document accounting processes and procedures
• Some travel may be required – up to 10 days per year
• Perform other duties as assigned

Compensation and Benefits:

• In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $54, 400 - $72,530. Note that salary may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
