Prince William County's Financial Reporting and Control (FRC) Division is seeking three qualified candidates interested in being an integral part of the County's Projects and Grants Team. We are looking for two Projects & Grants Accountants focused on projects and one Projects & Grants Accountant focused on grants. Become involved in a variety of interesting and challenging work assignments involving financial reports, grants, capital projects, and a variety of projects.

All Projects & Grants Accountants will have the following primary work responsibilities with either a focus on projects or grants that include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and review journal entries and analyze transactions involving capital projects and grants to ensure the activity is accounted for according to our accounting standards and County policies.
  • Review Board agenda items and Resolutions.
  • Assist with Projects & Grants month end close process including for Accounts Receivable by reconciling activity for a group of project codes and close expired projects/grants.
  • Clear suspense account activities by applying activity to the appropriate project/grant project code.
  • Analyze activity to provide information to file required reports.
  • Perform periodic analysis of assigned departments’ and/or agencies’ activities.
  • Provide customer service to assigned departments / agencies regarding accounting treatment questions for various transactions or Oracle EBS/Cloud systems questions especially the use of the Projects & Grants, GL, and Accounts Receivable modules.
  • Assist with gathering information and compiling sections of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Schedule of Expenditures for Federal Awards (SEFA).
  • Work with external auditors and departments / agencies during the financial statement audit.
PREFERENCES: The successful candidate will have…
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3 years’ experience working in accounting field and/or auditing. Some experience with working in local government is preferred but not required.
  • Some experience utilizing a large complex accounting system with subledgers, such as, Oracle EBS and/or Oracle Cloud applications.
  • Some experience developing ad-hoc reports and analyzing large volumes of data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft suite products, such as, Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, Outlook; Microsoft 365 products, such as, OneDrive, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams; and other applications.
  • Experience working with compiling or auditing financial statements, especially a governmental entities’ Annual Comprehensive Financial Report is preferred but not required.
  • Some experience working with external auditors preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and communication to consistently deliver high quality work in a professional manner.
  • Professional certification (CPA, CPFO, CIA, or CMA) preferred but not required.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: This is an exempt teleworking position that works flexible hours around the County’s open hours. Position will be expected to come into the office for team meetings, as needed. Temporary hoteling workspaces provided. Overtime hours may be required to meet deadlines during busy season.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must pass the County’s background check as a condition for employment.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $66,742 - $98,380
