A Sr. Accountant job is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department, Management Services Division. This is an advanced level position requiring a high level of responsibility. The selected candidate will perform financial analysis related to the utility's capital projects, monitor appropriations and actuals, submit journal entries and budget transfers, prepare capital projects for capitalization, balance and close capital projects, review all Mayor & Council Communications related to Water capital projects, collaborate with other departments with shared capital projects, and any other duties that may be assigned.

The Sr. Accountant job responsibilities include:

  • Comply with City's Financial Management Policy Statements.
  • Review content and FID table for all capital related Mayor & Council Communications.
  • Monitor project status to ensure timely capitalization of projects as well as research inactive projects.
  • Prepare capital projects for capitalization; and balance and close projects after capitalization.
  • Review and research funding sources, encumbrances, escrow, retainage, and CWIP.
  • Review monthly capitalization file to ensure proper clearing of CWIP, verify asset categories, volumes, and amounts.
  • Prepare and submit journal entries and budget transfers.
  • Verify capital project closing documentation is available in ERP.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Certified Public Accountant credentials
  • Experience working with ERP systems and strong Excel skills
  • Experience working in a State or Local Government environment
  • Strong knowledge of Governmental Accounting (Fund Accounting) concepts
