The Senior Accountant is responsible for, but not limited to, preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and close related supporting schedules as they relate to various key balance sheet and income statement areas (cash, investments, prepaids, fixed assets, accounts payable, accruals, equity, and more). This role is vital in ensuring that the financials are accurate, complete, and timely reported. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will have the opportunity to assist with various ad hoc projects as they arise, such as: software implementation, process improvement, financing, etc. This position may collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including financial statement auditors and other accounting related consultants.  This position reports to the Accounting Manager and is based at the Company’s office in San Diego, California.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Timely completion of month end processes including: Preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and other supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable tasks such as: invoice entry, vendor set-up, and assisting with payment runs.
  • Prepare quarterly R&D account reconciliation schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain the fixed asset ledgers and verify all items are properly capitalized and depreciated. 
  • Ensure compliance with Company accounting and internal control policies.
  • Assist with requests from external auditors and other professional service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience.  
  • BA/BS in accounting, finance, or related field, or higher degree required.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX regulations highly preferred.  
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro.
  • Must have an understanding of financial accounting systems. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in biotechnology/pharmaceutical or related industry in an accounting or finance capacity preferred.
  • IPO experience preferred, but not required. 
  • NetSuite experience is a plus.

Compensation:

  • This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, occasional overtime.
